"Once I opened this historical novel I could not put it down for the two days it took to read cover to cover. I work in downtown Augusta (my office is across Telfair Street from the old MCG building), and I enjoyed envisioning what my daily haunts were like ~140 years ago, as described in the book. "I loved the way this story was woven with history. I was cringing at the reality of what it must have been like in the mid 1800's to have an illness and be at the mercy of medicine back then. While reading I was transported back in time and could only imagine that things much worse than were depicted in the book happened on a regular basis. The outcome of the story gave me a sigh of relief but good grief I'm glad I didn't live back then! Great book to take you away from everyday life."
